This spices Opuntia was planted by my Grandmother in the early 1950’s as you can see it is a giant.
I make wine from the yellow fruit, 2008 was a particularly good vintage.
A bit like a non oaked, mellow Chardonnay with melon notes, good legs, fine finish and nice mouth feel. 80 pounds of fruit yielded 15 gallons of wine.
Included with the purchase of an unrooted pad will be my recipe for making Prickly Pear Cactus Wine.
As with all Opuntia the pad is very easy to root, just place it on the soil surface and wait.
We are offering a unrooted pad 8 to 10 inches long.
