Senecio radicans also known as String of Tears or String of Bananas is native to South Africa.
The small, pointed, succulent leaves of grow along creeping stems that form a matted colony. The translucent “windows” down the sides of the leaves allow sun to shine through, making this a most interesting subject for hanging pots.
The String of Bananas is a slow growing, popular, low maintenance plant to grow in very bright, indirect light or morning sun. It flower is white, not showy, yet has a strong cinnamon scent.
Plant in loose, porous, well-draining soil. Water when surface is dry. Fertilize with a balanced, low nitrogen fertilizer March through October. Protect from frost, hardy to 45 degrees F.
