Eucalyptus ficifolia also known as Red Flowered Malee produces spectacular 1 foot clusters of scarlet red flowers all year long here in Santa Barbara. We have observed considerable variation in flower color ranging from pink, orange, cream, with shades therein on trees grown from seed. Hardy to 30 degrees and very well rooted it does not blow over as easy as other Eucalyptus.
Usually single trunked, with a rounded head of foliage to 40 feet tall. Its compact crown is one that can be trained so to appear as a multi stemmed large bush. The leaves are 3 to 7 inches long, shape and texture of a rubber plant leaves. The bark is red and stringy to gray and fibrous.
Eucalyptus ficifolia is one of the few Eucalyptus trees that you can grow other plants under. It does not poison the ground beneath it.
Used for cut flower and foliage in arraignments and the seed capsules which are 1 inch wide shaped like miniature dice cups with a swollen bottom are used in craft projects.
We are offering a well established plant 4 to 6 inches tall
