Pelargonium peltatum also known as Ivy Geranium is native to the Cape Province of South Africa where they grow in sheltered places. The species was first introduced into Holland in 1700 and into England in 1774.
Picture a riot of color spilling over the edge of planters or baskets , trailing 2 to 3 feet with glossy bright green leaves 2 to 3 inches across, Ivy like with pointed lobes , displaying round clusters of multiple of flowers on 4 to 6 inch stems. Ivy Geraniums are unique in the cultural requirements and should not be treated the same as common Zonal Geraniums. Light and temperature are two factors that should be considered. Ivy Geraniums prefer moderate temperatures. If the temperatures are between 65 and 80 degrees F, place them in full sun. When the temperatures are above 85 degrees F, hang them in a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade.
